When/How to ask shadowing doctor

So I've been shadowing these two doctors (brothers) for a few months now but I'm not sure how and when to ask for a letter of recommendation. One problem is that last quarter I mainly interned for one of the doctors (the doctor that interviewed me to intern) but because of schedule conflicts I am interning with the other doctor (the brother) this quarter. So do I ask a LOR from both? and when and how should I ask? I want to ask the first doctor for sure but he's not in the office when I intern because he works on the days I'm busy. Am I suppose to ask for a LOR after I stop interning at the office or do I ask when I start applying to Optometry schools (end of 2010)?

Ask for the letter, now — give the doctor as much time to write it as you can.

Just ask them for it. I asked for letters from a couple of doctors after just one or two days of shadowing and they were happy to help. I'm sure the doctors would be happy to help you out. Just ask them!
