When is it appropriate to send "In the area" letters to schools?

I'm going to be traveling to Chicago next month, but it's not for an interview. Would it be inappropriate to notify the area schools that I'll be around during a certain week? 😕

Go ahead and send it. The reason you are in the area doesn't make the purpose of an in the area email more or less valid.
