Ok so if , ideally, I would like to get in to school and matriculate by Fall 2020 and I have my entire application ready- when is the latest time I can take the DATS. End of this August? September ? October? Any perineal stories on the matter or any advice is really appreciated !

Officially, “latest” depends on the school. UNC says September 15th. But waiting until September to take the DAT is very late. Schools won’t consider your application until it’s complete, which means your DAT need to be completed and scores verified which takes another 2 weeks. Absolute latest I’d say is early August but before is better if you want a good chance at getting pre-December interviews.

This might not be the answer you are looking for, but the focus should be scoring high as possible on the DAT without worry of missing a cutoff, too many students rush to take the DAT when not fully prepared and many times it leads to a retake, which means waiting 90 days, plus the added expense and anxiety. Taking the DAT when you are fully prepared allows you put the DAT behind you and worse case is you miss a cycle, but you still meet the objective of becoming a dentist. A year off isn't so bad, you can relax, work and save some money, those are things that won't be so easy to do once you are in dental school.

I'm honestly curious as to what the S stands for in DATS

Greetings,
I have a question similar to the one indicated in the post above. I am planning on applying for this cycle and will be a first time applicant; however, I have taken dat twice and I am not happy with my scores. I have scheduled my test for the first week of september and my plan is to submit my application after I take my dat (to show my improvement) and email my unofficial score to the schools. Now, I am willing to put more pressure and handle the anxiety to finish it all (prepare well) by the first week of september rather than taking a year off. Would you please be able to advise me whether to apply prepared during first week of September or is that late.
Sincerely,
Yas

I understand you want to take the DAT and get into Dental school asap, but the reality is your have already taken the DAT twice, and I am not sure why? Did you rush to take it the other times? When did you take the the DAT last? Why are you putting so much pressure on yourself? I have worked with students that have applied much later than the first week of September and got into dental school the next cycle, but they had high DAT scores and a strong application.
