When is MSAR 2017-18 edition going to be out?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not sure what the exact date is but on their website it states it is "published in the spring of each year, typically in early April". I know in some years previous it has been released a little early in March. Hope that helps 🙂

I received an email from the AAMC earlier today stating that the 2017 edition of MSAR was released this afternoon. I purchased the online version (2016) last month to form my school list, and I just looked through the updated 2017 version, but I did not see much of a difference compared to last years.

Are you sure you have that right? The version from this past year has been the 2017 one. We're waiting for the 2018 one which will come in late April they said.

the update will be "MSAR 2018" and has not been released yet

Oh, you're right. My bad. The 'new' Official Guide was what was just released, apparently. Sorry everyone

What new features/changes does this version have? Will they include the new-MCAT score scales?

Yes, the big anticipated change is that we will now see accepted applicant medians and ranges for the new MCAT, whereas right now we have only the overall applicant ranges.

What is not clear to me is whether they will show us both the new MCAT and old MCAT ranges, since the cohort was a 50%-50% mix of both, or if they will be switching to only the new MCAT values.

wouldn't you expect then that the 10%ile it shows now will be shifted significantly to the right (since 10%ile admit should be a lot higher than 10%ile apply), but the 90% apply should also shift to the right but not to the same degree? Idk if I'm thinking too simply but the accepted students come from the applicants so 90% applicant should be somewhat similar to the 90% admit I would feel like or is this too simplistic of a view

I don't follow?

Currently we see applicant ranges for new scores, and accepted applicant ranges for old scores.

The accepted ranges are indeed shifted far upwards/to the right of the applicant ranges (see this for comparison). In some of the most extreme cases, the 10th percentile for accepted lies within the top quartile of applicants.

^ If younm is just trying to predict who would actually get in, I think it's going to look very similar to the current distributions. E.g. right now stanford's 10th-90th is 33-41 and I will be shocked if the new range is significantly different than ~513-525
