So i took the mcat yesterday
I get my scores the 17th of september apparently

I'm not sure when I want to apply to medical school

I'm assuming i can apply this cycle to enter medical school fall 2014

I can apply next year I'm guessing as well for the fall of 2015

Will the test also expand out to fall of 2017?

As a re-applicant myself, I suggest to wait until next spring to apply. I was in your same situation last year, and I received two interviews out of seven schools I applied to; however, I was still rejected.

In hindsight the better decision for me would have been to spend the next 8-10 months preparing yourself for the application cycle and hit next year hard.

For me applying early, and spending significant time writing a good personal statement, and secondary essays has made the world of difference in this application cycle.

Good luck with your decision!

Your MCAT scores are valid for three years after you take the test. You can apply anytime within that period.

i think the app cycle for fall 2016 matriculation is the latest you can use that mcat for most schools. i took mcat in sep 2009 and matriculated in 2012 and didn't have any issues - ie there weren't any schools i wanted to apply to that wouldn't take my mcat. however i would have had to retake if had waited another year because most of the schools i applied to wouldn't take mcats earlier than that.

the 3 year period is a good rule of thumb but i do suggest you look up the policies of the schools you are most interested in to be sure. all the info is in msar if you can't find it on individual school websites.
