When is the optimal time to take CS and CK?

Hello all:

I just migrated over from Step 1

Anyway: I was wondering when the best time for take these tests are?


Would taking it around next September be a good idea?

My school has a year III OSCE at the end. My friends say take Step 2 CS right after the OSCE since you just studied for the OSCE. Plus, there is only 1 testing center that is near us (driving range), so you have to register early. The other 4 sites will require flying.

By reading your posts in the step 1 forum, it seems like you crushed it so Sept should be fine for CK. I've heard often "take CK early and do well" to overshadow a step 1 score.

I will have to look into registering CS now... a colleague of mine is on the Eastern seaboard and is flying to Texas for his CS exam. 😱

There is no impact of when you take the exam. It is solely based on your schedule, your free time, and your availability.

The only time it matters is if your Step I sucked, and you want to use Step 2 to boost your application, then it has to be done by July/August, so it can be in full effect for your applications. Otherwise, there is no benefit to timing.

If you did well on Step 1, take Step 2 late.
