after a rejection or waitlist, what exactly would you ask them besides "What is the weakest part of my application I can improve?" I'm sure they receive quite a few requests to meet and discuss why they didn't get in and what they should be doing for next year...probably gets redundant. Its not exactly a formal interview where you get asked the questions.

I think you should say just that. "I am disappointed to receive a rejection from X SOD, and I am not going to stop applying to school until I am accepted, dentistry is my passion (or something along those lines so it shows you are resilient). What can I do to become a more competitive applicant next cycle?"

That is what I would say if I was sending an email to figure out why my app was rejected. Was it pre or post interview?

It is post-interview but I've previously met with an adcom member to discuss my application in a previous cycle at the same school. I got the typical "we get a bunch of competitive applicants and there are a lot of touch decisions made"

RSalha, congrats on the UW acceptance!! Very happy for you 🙂

OP, I agree with RSalha said. Ask them, in their opinion, what would they recommend? Take more classes, retake DAT, more shadowing hours, etc?

Some schools say they cannot provide specific info, but other schools' ADCOMs are really helpful. The way I phrased my email was, "What advice can you give me to better my application in case I needed to reapply next year?" I said this to schools that I was neutrally interested in (wasn't crazy about them, but would "settle" by going there). I also said that because in case I did need to reapply, I'd be leaving open communication with their ADCOM, and I also hinted that I might not reapply if I got in. But that's just how I approached it.

Good luck to you! I hope you get in to a school you're happy with! 🙂

Thank you very much that is really nice of you!

OP, so what you are saying is this is the second time you've been rejected by the school? And the second time you've interviewed there? If so, then maybe you may need to work on your interviewing skills? Please don't take that the wrong way, I'm just offering suggestions as to why you may have gotten denied twice, but gotten two interviews?

Rejected and then wait-listed, but essentially the meeting will serve the same purpose. I appreciate the feedback guys.

I only have experience with one school regarding this, which is Marquette, and the past 3 years I have made appointments with the director of admissions to meet one on one to discuss my file and what I have to do. He always had my file already on hand when I came in, and he already knew what he would suggest which was pretty helpful. he looked directly at my transcripts and told me my problem areas, looked at my DAT and told me that wasn't a problem but can be improved, and so on. If you do have a problem with your GPA (like I did, my SGPA 4 years ago was around 3.0), come prepared with classes you might want to take to boost the GPA, and they can maybe tell you which ones are more important and would look better on your transcript. best advice I can give you is be very specific with your questions. good luck to you!
