I just started shadowing a dentist and she said I could come in whenever but I think it was out of courtesy. do most people call in a day or two before to give heads up?

I feel like a bother to the dentist or should I just give a heads up to the assistant ( I got his #)

I started off calling in advance, but over time, I would show up/let them know I would probably be in, before I left.
