So I got rejected from Pacific because of my low GPA, which is kind of BS because they saw my GPA before inviting me for an interview...so should I schedule my interviews after December 15 when my new grades will come out and my GPA will go WAY up? The only downside I can see is that a lot of the seats will be filled up so that it might be more competitive to get in...

interview to where? to pacific? you just said you got rejected.

no i have a couple other interviews lined up...basically idk if i should push one back to after Dec. 15....

Find out if the interview is open or closed file. For example, I know at SCCO, if you are invited for an interview then you have met their academic qualifications and that is no longer a factor in their decision. I think every school is different (because some invite everyone to interview, while others only invite those that meet their academic qualifications). If you see that it's closed file and your academic qualifications won't be a factor, then go interview right away. You can be sure that they are inviting you to evaluate you in the way you interact and what you have to say about the profession and won't be rejected because of your grades. However, if you aren't sure what a school might do, then I think it's okay to wait since it's a good talking point to show how your grades have improved (but grades rarely come up at interviews).

Keep in mind that people interviewing now will be accepted at several schools perhaps, and so those schools are saving them a spot but that student can only go to one school. So spots will continue to open!

I also think it's appropriate to ask the schools about how full their class is when making that decision (or at least you can ask if they have had to start waitlisting anyone they are thinking of admitting at this point), or to let them know you want to wait until after the semester to show improvement in your grades. Being open and honest with them is probably a little refreshing, since that helps them get to know you better. Plus in sharing that, they might say back that you have passed the academic qualifications and that's no longer a factor so there's no reason to wait.

Sorry about Pacific 🙁 I hope the others go better!

Well Pacific was actually a closed interview, but the problem is that after the interview the committee looks at everything, interview AND grades...I was hoping that they would put me "on hold" till Fall grades like some other schools have done with people, but I guess they don't do that =/ thanks for your advice tho!

I'm kind of in a similar situation - what was your GPA, if you don't mind me asking? (cumulative and last 45?)

For all the people private messaging me about my stats, everyone is different so you really can't compare your stats to mine. I basically had a low GPA and a high OAT score. No I was not wait-listed, I was flat out rejected. My interview actually went really well. Hope that helps.

Also, let's say I was put "on hold" till my fall grades....are there any Opt students that were put on hold that are now in the optometry school??

Well, from the sounds of it, they do have a waiting list. So I'd assume students who were put on a waitlist could be granted a spot.

Also - it's interesting to see how people in similar situations have fared. Especially for me, since I have a low-ish GPA, very high OAT, and am retaking classes as we speak. My interview is coming up super quick as well. Sure, everyone has different shadowing experiences and extracurriculars, but that's not to say that comparing stats is useless.

Being put on hold is not the same thing as being on a waiting list.
