Hey guys, I just got a few questions:

1. When should I take the DAT if I plan on applying in June 2013?

2. I haven't taken Organic Chemistry yet, but I will be finished with Organic Chemistry II by the end of this year (May). I don't know if this is a good or bad thing, but how do you guys think this will affect me?

3. I know that not everyone studies the same way, and there are various methods that people follow, but what is the consensus on this forum for the best way to study for the DAT? I would greatly appreciate it if you could link me to whomever you think has the best method for taking on the DAT.

I am applying same time as you. I am taking it on late this semester (November or December). I have finished Organic I and II though.

- by end of February. If you do not do good first time you will still have time to take it second time and still be early for your applications in june. you will be eligible in may.

Mostly DAT concentrates on Orgo I but personally i would not take dat without taking orgo chem II, its a risk. Plus in orgo II everything from orgo i will be repeated and it would make even better sense.. Depending on your school schedule it might be little hard to study for orgo and conc on dat studying. unless all you are taking is orgo ii and 3 other easy classes.

One study method might of one student is not a perfect fit to other students. What i suggest is that you pick up a dat book and see how long does each chapter take you to understand and read. based on that create a plan where it gives you plenty of time to review material and take plenty of practice tests. its simple as that.

1)Earlier, better. Ideally March would be best, since in case of a retake, you can retake it in June.But take it only when you are doing semi well on your practice tests.
2) Since you are finishing OCHEM II in may, I would take the DAT in June, latest early July. Having Ochem II not long ago from the time you will be taking DAT, will save you tremendous amount of time from studying DAT for ochem section.
3)Generally, from last couple of posts that I've observed, people study about 2.5 months. For the method, you should read the breakdowns of people and see which one is the most similar to the way you study. I read so many breakdowns, yet none of them seem to fit the way I like, so I just made my own method.
What I thought was brilliant was someone practiced the timing using destroyer questions in set of 40/30/30 for bio/gchem/ochem, giving 30 minute each or total of 1.5 hour. I thought this was great way to get used to timing from very early studying for DAT without having to adjust only during practice tests.
