So I want to take the DAT in May. If I want to retake would an August test date be too late? (I have a gpa that is competitive for the schools I want to apply to.)

Take it when you feel the most ready... Start studying now.. Then take around march, so u can retake around June...... I did exactly what u said and retook in aug... Ultimately my gpa saved me. I still got accepted to 3 schools...

Yes you can.

Here is the catch:
When you turn in your aadsas application in june, lets say you are not happy with your scores and you put down your retake date on aadsas.

Some schools will wait for your new DAT. Some schools will use your first DAT to review your application. Either cases, you will be at an disadvantage.

My best advice is that its good to have backup plan and everything but dont walk in the testing center with a "ok, lets see how it goes, i can always retake" mindset. This is a BIG no-no. Study like you mean it. Give it all you got. Good luck 👍

I completely agree with wizi. Take the test when you are ready. Retake should be a last resort, not a casual plan B. BTW I am in no way insinuating that you have this attitude.

Technically, August isn't late since Applications are filed in June. Like wizi said though you'll be at a disadvantage if your scores aren't good enough. May is quite far away so I am sure you'll do well if you're planning so many months in advance (even if you are in school right now or are working full-time). In summary, don't worry about August, just worry about may and destroy the exam in one go!

I actually could have studied from July and August and taken the test in September but I knew it wouldn't be wise to apply this cycle so late. I decided to properly prepare for 3 months instead of two and just try my best in December and I'll be applying next cycle.

August would not be too late. Just have your main application sent in sometime in June though. Goodluck!
