I am not familiar with all of the procedures regarding the GRE. I am a sophomore animal science student right now, so I know it is nothing for me to worry about right now. But, when did most of you take you're GREs and when would you recommend taking them?

I took mine today! And lived to tell the tale! 😉

I just finished my Junior year. I wanted to take it when I wasn't stressed over classes, but early enough in the summer that if I totally bombed and needed to retake it, I'd have a few months before the application cycle/test revision this fall.

if you just finished or are going into your sophomore year (and don't plan on applying until you're a 4th year student), i'd wait a year to take the GRE so that you were taking it under the new standards (because most of the people applying with you will have the new one on board) and so that they have time to learn the system/glitches.

good times to think about it are winter break and summer break when you have nothing else to think about. i thought i'd take it during spring break, but ultimately had no time to study so i ended up taking it during the summer

Another thing - the format is changing. Because you are only a sophomore, I would definitely wait until the new format is 'settled' and all the bugs are worked out. It changes this August, so you should have plenty of time after that. The summer is a good bet if you aren't taking many classes. Just give yourself time to take it more than once, just in case. You can only take it once per calendar month, so take it in June and again, if needed, in July or August? Just a suggestion.

ETA: Repeated what jmo said, haha. Oh well, good advice!

Thanks for the advice folks. I am so exciting about going to vet school. I just hope I can hold up in Biochemistry and Organics. I have heard of a lot of people failing Biochemistry the first time and having to retake it.
