I searched this, but only could find it about pharmacy school....my question is this: when is it best to add an extra letter of recommendation? I have already graduated, and the letter is from the head surgeon of the hospital at which I working as a researcher. Should I hold on to the letter of rec in case I end up on a wait list? should i use the letter if i dont seem to be getting interviews? if the second is the case, when should i decide that the likelihood of getting an interview invitation is dwindling? Thanks in advance...

I don't know much but I think you should add it now. Have you applied to all the schools you want, or have you done secondaries yet? Personally I would add it ASAP so the schools can see it, especially because it is from the head of surgery. 🙂

I have applied to all my schools, secondaries and all. I have pretty competitive stats: 34 MCAT, 3.8 gpa, double major bio/economics, unique research that helped bring a pain management product. I'm still a little scared that I haven't heard anything about interviews. I know getting the interview is the biggest hump to get passed, so I want to do anything possible to get into their offices. Guess I'll send it in as soon as I can. Thanks for the help. If anyone else has any advic let me know.

At this point in time, if we just upload a new LOR to AMCAS will the schools automatically be notified?

Yes.

I had to do the same b/c one of the schools wanted proper letterhead for my letters, so my letter writers fixed the problem and reloaded the letters through AMCAS.

AMCAS forwards the letters to schools very quickly, like the day of.
