Hello everyone....I hope you are all doing well. Congrats to all those that got in this cycle. Good luck to you all.

Here is my situation. I want to apply this May 2006 to dental school and am thinking that I should wait and apply May 2007. I graduated May 2005 with my bachelors but hadn't thought abt dentistry so i had none of my science pre-reqs. After graduation I started taking my science pre-reqs. I should mention that my GPA is lowww ( 2.86ish :scared: ......not including the ones listed below)

So far I have taken...
General Chem I B-
General Chem II A-
General Biology B
Tirg A-
I am taking Calculus I, Organic I and General Bio II right now. I will register for Organic II, Physics I and some other course in bio for Fall 06

So..... Should I
a) take microbiology over the summer and take Organic II, Physics I and some bio class in the Fall 06....start studying for DAT Spring 07 and take the DAT in June 07 and apply May 2007 ( this will give me more classes for my sci GPA)

b) apply this May....not take micro over the summer and take the DATs around July-Aug 06?

Though my Cum gpa is low( very bad fresh/soph years) .....i was on the national dean's list twice and have worked as an dental assistant for 3.5yrs.

P.S. I'm not trying to be rude but please don't reply if you have nothing nice to say. People come on this site to get information that will help them. Thank you.

so when does a public forum become limited to nice comments!

Don't ask if your not willing to get the good and the bad..

to answer your question:

Shoot for july to take the DAT. Apply in may or june but just get your application in early. I would consider applying in 2007 instead of 2006. Looking at your classes you've taken so far you look pretty good. On the otherhand with a low gpa you might need take more classes and do well in them especially upper level science classes, so that adcoms can see that you can handle tough science classes.

Extra curriculars don't mean anything if you have crappy grades. Keep working as a dental assistant as long as you maintain good grades, otherwise look into other dental related activites that don't require too much time commitment.

Good luck 👍
