I have to retake some classes in the fall, when should I apply for next fall?

should I send the transcript first, then resend it when I finish the classes?

thanks.

You have to send a transcript when you submit your AMCAS application. If you wait until the end of fall quarter, or even worse, semester, to apply, you'll be applying WAY too late. You need to apply in early summer to maximize your chances. So you basically have no choice but to submit the transcript first as is. AMCAS requires you to report grades for ALL classes you've taken, even if you retake the class, and both are figured into your GPA. The AMCAS app has a place for you to report classes you plan to take, so it will be apparent from your application that you're retaking. Good luck. 🙂

I am also planning on take the August mcat. So it seems that I can wait until August to send out my applications since they have to wait for my MCAT scores?

would they send me secondaries at all if they don't have my mcat score?

I took the August MCAT last summer, and I recommend applying and doing absolutely everything as early as humanly possible to mitigate the handicap of being an August MCATer. You won't believe the number of screw-ups that are possible with transcripts, the AMCAS application and LOR's, not to mention how long it takes to do all those secondaries. You want to have your files totally and completely complete when AMCAS has scores ready to report, so that your file can go to review the minute the scores are there. If you don't even apply until August, you are putting yourself in an impossible situation.

I guess that my real question should be "do they start to screen my application before they get my August mcat score and my fall's grade?"

Most schools will wait till they get your MCAT scores to screeen your application.

They will not wait until they get your fall grades to screeen your application. In fact may schools will not use the fall grades at all. You can have them sent when they come out, but they will not affect your AMCAS GPA and the school will simply view them as "supplementary material".

Screening is a different process than reviewing for an interview, and refers to schools that screen before sending secondaries. Only a few highly competitive schools (liike Stanford, for instance) screened for secondaries this year. Most schools either had an on-line secondary (may or may not require them to send you an access code or PIN) or sent one via snail mail once AMCAS had let them know you were applying. AMCAS notifies all the schools you are applying to well before they finish processing your application. For this reason, you should submit your AMCAS as early as possible.

thanks for all the wonderful answers.

I definitly 100% have to retake two classes. if I take them in the fall, it seems that those scores won't be considered with the main application? should I wait for another year? i am getting a little agitated for what I should do.

thanks.
