For those of you who have gone through the process, I was wondering if you guys could give some advice as to when to apply with these MCAT and GPA scores:

Let's say you have a low GPA (<3.5) and low MCAT (<30), should you
1) apply now despite the bad scores,
2) wait to apply after taking the August MCATs for this application season,
3) or instead, wait to apply the following application cycle?

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! 😀

What will happen by the next cycle?

How low is your GPA?

With a 3.3 and a 28 apply and consider retaking the mcat, but definitely apply.

With a 3.2 and a 29 still apply but plan on taking the mcat this august or april if you think you can do better.

That's my advice. The numbers are really arbitrary, I just tried to come up with something that sounded reasonable to me.

After a year, I'm hoping the GPA and the MCAT scores will be higher... however the thing is, if I submit my AMCAS now (even though I plan on taking the August MCAT) won't I get rejected as a result of the scores that already appear on paper? So that's why I was asking if I should apply either after the MCAT scores come back (probably too late) or instead apply the following year. I really don't know what to do. The MCATs have left me in a tough spot, and I'm just looking for some advice on what I should proceed to do.

Apply now and indicate on AMCAS you will take the August MCAT (under standardized tests button). That way schools will know you mean to take the beast in August and they won't take action on your application until they have those scores. But if you apply now and get verification done over with, it will expedite the process once your August scores come back.

What if your scores are already competitive for some schools but indicate you are retaking in august. Can you get an interview based on the first set of scores?
