Hey, I am graduating next June 2007 and want to go on to medical school, I just visited Nova's osteopathic website saying application deadline is January 15th, does that mean this January? 😕 I don't have much guidance on the time line of applying and if it's that different from highschool applying to college, please help. Can someone give me a briefing on what to do and *when* thank you!!

Okay, since you are graduating June 2007, you will need to apply this summer in order to get accepted for admission august 2007. The AACOMAS (which is the application used to apply to osteopathic schools) or AMCAS( used to apply to allopathic schools) open on June 1st of every year. Even though schools say that their deadline is in January, it is to your advantage to apply early since they are on a rolling admission. How to think about this is if you apply in June, you are competing for approx. 200 seats, but if you apply in January you will be competing for 50-100 seats (hence more competition later). It is always to you advantage to apply early.

If you want to enter in the fall of 07 then you should start your application this summer. Visit the AACOMS website and there is a complete timeline for when you should submit all of your applications, finaid forms, etc.

A good place to start would be to find out if your undergrad school has a premedical advisor. If not, go to you're career center or the equivalent for grad school (at my school it was the same office). They will help you figure out when you need to take the MCAT (probably this april if you want to start applying in june), how to get together letters of rec, etc.
