So, when should I think about applying, especially to the more competitive programs? I'm in my CA-2 year, and my advisor is actually the Program Director for the Anesthesia/CCM program at my home institution. I'm in a bit of a tough spot because he really wants me to stay here. It's not that he's not being helpful, but he's been a bit cagey about when I should really get going (for example... me: "Should I apply this fall and do a formal match?" him: "You can, but that's not really necessary.")
When do you guys think is a good time to apply? One CA-3 in my program already has his spot at Hopkins... in 2010! (He's taking two-years to work as an anesthesia attending while his wife finishes her surgery residency.)
