Is August too late to apply? I want to apply earlier but I will be taking summer classes and those classes won't end until the end of July and want those grades to be counted into my GPA ...

How much would your GPA increase with those few credits? Applying in June will provide significant advantages (interviews quicker, first waive) over a few hundreths of an increase in a GPA. You can apply in August, but I had 3 interviews scheduled by that time. That's my two cents

I totally agree with DrReo. If you wait until August to apply, AADSAS processing usually takes another 4-6 weeks and then it takes each school a couple of weeks to go through the file. You'd be looking at September or possibly even October before you'd be invited to an interview and it could be December or later when there is an interview date open. IMO, if waiting isn't going to substantially raise your GPA, it's not worth waiting.

i was wondering about this too! not to steal your question or anything, but i'm going to be taking physics over the summer (both semesters worth) and won't be done till end of august. thing is, by the end of this semester, my sgpa will be i think 3.0, but if (sort of a big if) i get a's in both physics over the summer, i'll be up to a 3.1. my predent advisor said to wait till physics was over so they'd see my grades, but i'm afraid that'll be too late!

If I wait It will raise my overall GPA from a 2.9 to a 3.0 if I make good grades in these two classes so that's why I was wondering.. Should I apply to AADSAS and then just send in my transcripts when Im done with my classes?

If you are going to wait, maybe you should add on some more classes for a greater GPA increase

I applied about that late and still had success, but it wasn't till March. If I had to do it over again I would apply on the very FIRST day, especially if your stats are average.

Say I apply June 1st but want to take summer classes - can I send submit everything except the transcripts (so schools will see my gpa with the summer classes included) in say late july? Or is it better to submit grades and then update the dental schools when the classes finish?

Not submitting transcripts is the same as not submitting since AADSAS won't process or forward your application until they receive them. Keep in mind, also, that AADSAS re-calculates your GPA so your GPA might be different from what your transcripts say. If you're set on having these classes on the transcript that is sent to AADSAS, I'd make sure to have completed the rest of your application and have a transcript release form ready for your school. In my case, it took nearly a week for my school to send the transcript. Don't know what it takes at other universities. At least by having everything ready and just waiting for transcripts to be sent you will minimize the amount of time it takes for processing.

Also, you haven't mentioned you DAT. Have you taken it yet? If you really rocked it, you will be in a better position overall. This should figure in to your decision on when to apply.

Auron, you mentioned sending transcripts and then updating your status. I don't remember for sure but I don't think the AADSAS update even opens until late November or maybe even early December. You could, however, update directly with the dental schools if they allow it.

I would have to agree with the above post. Until EVERYTHING is at the AADSAS the app is not done. Some schools may still hand out interviews without everything, but that is a school by school basis and it depends on what is missing. I actually submitted my app on June 16, but because my LOR's were late my app wasn't considered complete until Aug. If you have a really good current GPA and you are doing well on these new classes than I would advise submitting it early and updating either later in the cycle, or send the update to each individual school.

Good luck!

Ok. Thanks for the posts!! I think I'm just going to apply early and update my GPA when I can..
