when to begin job search?

For those fellows who complete training in 2017...when do you plan to start your job search? im starting to think/stress about this as I have specific personal demands that my ideal job must meet....what are others doing?

This summer would be a good time. If academic job then early summer, if PP then may be able to wait until fall.

Being early is always good. It's never wrong.

But keep in mind that when things really start to get moving probably is pretty variable from field to field though - and probably from year to year too. It can be stressful to have sent everything out and be waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and then waiting some more, only to have all your options make progress in the span of 2 weeks.

I started in August. It takes forever to interview, license and credential.

I started compiling my CV and lining up references toward the end of 2nd year (went into gen peds). I did interviews in August. I think there is variability, but many groups plan for retirements or growth way in advance. Now that I do the interviews, we do them pretty much year round but the big push for upcoming grads is late summer/fall.
