when to call schools?

does anyone know when it is appropriate to start calling schools? i've been waiting forever and haven't heard back from some of my top choice schools, including UCLA, USC, and tufts. some of my friends who sent in their applications after i did and who have lower stats (same-ish EC's and shadowing experience) have gotten interviews from those schools! do you think it is okay to call the schools to find out whats going on?

I would wait out for Tufts because they are still relatively early in their interviewing process. You can call the other schools though and just ask them to clarify that they have your complete app and that you're not missing anything.

I was wondering the same thing.. but I'm a bit hesitant to call because I don't want to annoy them
