Hello,
I am a sophomore undergrad right now, and in Fall 09' will be a junior. When should I start applying to dental schools?- I will have all of my pre-reqs done by Winter 10'. And then when would I take the DAT? I am a bit confused on when to do what?! I have about 30 hrs of internship/shadowing at dental offices and have a 3.6 science GPA. I want to start dental school in Fall 11'. Thank you!! AHHH please help! I'm a bit stressed! 😱

woah hello there...apply June 1 2010. Try to take your DAT by mid July 15th, welcome to the site, it's a great resource!

sounds good but get bio, chem and ochem done by Summer 2010 right... so she can do the DAT?

take physics and/or biochem later is what I've read

does anyone by any chance know that what are the chances of being accepted just after 3 years of undergraduate considering that the person's gpa is around 3.85?

(So I mean complete 3 years of undergrad and then enter dental school without finishing off undergrad)

From what I hear it's unlikely but it does happen. I am guessing you would have to do way above the average acceptance for DAT and have amazing ECs. A 3.8 is a good GPA, but there are a lot of students with 3.8's..so just a GPA is not enough to get you in the door.

DAT: Winter/Spring '10, preferably during a break
Apply: As soon after June 1, '10 as you can

Make sure you have all your rec letters lined up well before you apply. Don't settle for a fixed amount of dental experience; get as much as you possibly can before you start the AADSAS app.

It sounds like you're doing well. Just take it one step at a time and you'll be fine.

Thank you so much... yeah I am done with Ochem this semester.. and I will do physics next year along with micro and physiology... I am debating on taking physics 1 and 2 this summer or taking it fall 09'.. Do you need it on your transcript when you apply for school? I also just got an internship in a dentist office- so I will be continuing my experience there...

Thanks everyone! I am excited about using this site..

I was actually provisionally considering this route as well. A few schools that I was considering that allow this type of acceptance had a minimum GPA requirement of 4.0. (Yeah, I know..."minimum".) So I think you're stats will have to be a little better as does your EC/comm service/research.

I took physics I and II during the summer, and it made things a lot easier on me. 👍

It's good to have all your pre-reqs done before you submit your AADSAS app. If you're not applying until the '10-11 cycle, you should be all right, whether you take physics this summer or not. If you've got II done by May of 2010, you'll have the grades when AADSAS opens that June. If you'd rather play it safe, go for the summer sessions and save yourself the stress of a heavier course load in the fall.
