I read in the popular Isserson residency guidebook that it is better to interview later, like January, because you will have a more recent impression on the committee when they make their rank list. However, in speaking with my advisor in my IM department, I was told not to interview in January as much as could be avoided because it gives the impression that you're not as interested in that program. I would appreciate any other opinions from anyone who has gone through the process on either side of the interviewer's desk.
