So I've been studying for the OAT (on my own) for about the past month. I'm hoping to take it in mid or late August, either before or shortly after the school year starts. According to the schedule I've set for myself, I will be finished with reviewing the last section by the end of July. After that I want to review everything again and take some practice tests. My question is, how early in advance should I register for the OAT? Does space fill up quickly? Thanks!
Seeing how the OAT isn't really in hot demand...I wouldn't worry about spaces filling up quickly. At my test center, I checked on July 3 and there were still spaecs on July 5, which is the day I took my test. But you should pick your day as soon as possible, at least a month in advance, in order to psych yourself...otherwise you might just keep putting it off. =P Pick a day and pretend its immovable unless absolutely necessary. Pretend it's the MCAT and it's only offered that day, so you'd better study your butt off before that day, no mercy.
However, you can register and PAY anytime, and your registration will be valid for up to one year, in which you must go online to 2test.com or prometric.com (same site) and choose a day and test center.
Actually, prometric's sites don't allow you to schedule or reschedule appointments currently (hopefully they'll get that fixed...it's been broken for like 3 months..you can only CHECK your appointment, you can't schedule a new one or reschedule an old one) so you'll have to call until they fix that. I've complained about it everytime I called and they said they're working on fixing it.
You should go through the online choosing process as far as you can before you call though, so you can see what test centers are available (COPY DOWN THE TEST CENTER CODE), what days are available for that center, and what times...however be aware that when you call, they can only give you the FIRST available time of that day. For example, if you look at July 5 and it says 8 am, 10 am, and 12 pm...when you call, their representatives will only be able to give you the 8 am one. When they fix the website, you should be able to choose the other time slots yourself. Some test center have more than one code...check all the codes because sometimes they have different days/times available even though it's actually exactly the same test center.
When you register and pay for the OAT, they'll send you a letter with the phone number you need to call to choose a day and test center. The first time you choose, they'll give you a confirmation number, and you can use this online to check your appointment. If you want to reschedule, just call and give them your confirmation number. Your confirmation number will remain the same no matter how many times you reschedule. You can do this anytime up to a year after you pay. If you want to reschedule, you need to do this at least 2 days before your test date. I rescheduled 3 times haha - from June 30 (8 am) to July 5 (8 am) to July 5 (9 am).
