there are a lot of theories out there on when the best time to send it AADSAS is. obviously, the earlier the better. however, i've heard that the first batch of students are usually the 4.0/22+ students. i'm a pretty good student with good stats etc and am definitely competitve, but i dont want to compete with 4.0 students. should i send in my AADSAS say around early June? thanks!

it all depends on how the school evaluates you. If they have a cutoff at 3.5 it doesn't matter when they get your app if your below that you won't get in. I think people are making this way too complicated. Just apply early as in yesterday 😀

You better me joking. I am going to apply probably by next week but won’t have DAT until June 10th.

Agreed. Some schools do have cut off's, for example UOP and DAT scores, and even if your application is super early if you don't meet those minimum requirements your chances take a nose dive. On the other hand some schools, such as CASE, really favor early applicants. What does all of this mean? Apply as early as you can, do your homework and pick schools that you think you have a good shot at, and above all else don't stress about matters that are out of your hands. 👍

honestly i think that for most schools, all may and june applicants are pretty much looked at at the same time since the first interviews aren't determined until around august sometime (except for case which starts notifying of interviews as early as july i believe). i think that it never hurts to just get it in as soon as you can, especially for people with lower stats.

yay, this was my 1000th post! :hardy:

I have a question, I asked a couple teachers for letter of recommendations for aadsas. I am going to use the letter service at UF, and I plan on taking the DAT some time in june, but I wanted to know if I should submit the aadsas application now and just send the letter of recommendations when they all come in and send the dat scores throught the ada. Oh man, if I don't get in somewhere because of me not having the letter of recommendations on time...i'd be pissed. I asked for them in feburary, I am hoping that atleast by the end of june that I have them.

rip go ahead and apply now and send in the letters later. I was in a similar sitiuation and most schools will still grant interviews with limited LORs. But watch out this is the rate limiting step many times. AADSAS can take up to 8 weeks to process a letter in peak times.

I think your LOR's can get forwarded at a later time w/o affecting your application. It shouldn't make too much of a difference, what are your stats like?

GPA: 3.70
Science GPA: Not quite sure what it is exactally but I know that its above a 3.7 so mabye a 3.75 or something like that

Haven't taken the DAT's yet....gonna take them soon. I was planning on using the letter service for my LORs. The resident orthodontist who I was shadowing graduated from UF and he has left so I hope that I don't need them to sign that lor form.

Is there a place where you can find the GPA/DAT cutoff information for individual dental schools? Or is it just a matter of speaking to the admissions of each school to find out how much they weigh different criteria?
Thanks!

The American Dental Education Association Official Guide to Dental Schools has listings of dental schools with number of out of state residents accepted, previous years incoming class gpa's, DAT scores, etc. Also they give cost of attending, contact info and so on. Overall a great resource.

It's the fourth book down from the top.

Question about the applications. You guys are already sending in your applications, but what is June 1st? Is that the first day the applications are sent out to the dental schools?

How many letters of recommendation should be sent out to dental schools.

These are the ones I have:

(A)Advanced Biology Letter (1 of the 160 students in the class)
(A)Advanced Composition Letter (Probably knows me the best)
(A)Core Cirriculum Letter (1 of the 550ish students in the class)
(A-)Organic Chemistry Letter (1 of the 200ish students in the class)
Shaddowing Letter (I'm sending this one for sure)
Research Professor Letter

Which ones should I send in?

Thanks!
