i submitted my ERAS application sept 9th and applied to ~20 programs in the northeast corridor. as of right now, i have 2/4 LORs uploaded and still waiting for my dean's letters. I have only received 2 interview requests...while many people I know have received >5 interview requests already. Is it too early to start worrying? i applied to university programs, mostly 1st and 2nd tier programs. my stats are Step1-214, Step2-222, and i'm in the middle of my class (top 40-50%), basically honors/high-passes. i'm going to a state allopathic school.

should i start sending out apps to community and 3rd tier programs? am i deluded in thinking my qualifications are good enough for 1st and 2nd tier programs?

🙁 :scared: 😱

I think there are only 2 community anesthesia programs left in the country so go for it.

Relax little buddy. Once the deans letter goes out you'll be landing those interviews. Feel free to apply to any program you would consider going to. You can always turn down an interview offer but you have to apply first ya know.

Yeah, you can wait to send out secondary applications until after the 1st of november. You are a pretty good applicant. I can tell you why you see some people with over 5 interviews.....they applied to over 50 places!! (including me!!!!). Wish I sent out less and paid a lot less.

Not sure, but what I thought he meant was sending out new/more applications through ERAS to different programs that he/she did not originally apply to.

Accept nervousness...unfortunately it will be a part of your life forever so to speak. You will still be nervous occasionally even after you get into a program, when you finish and even when you are an attending doc someday. Don't sweat this..I don't think you should have any problem getting in according to your stats.

These guys are absolutely right as far as the Dean's Letter goes. Things sped up a bit for me and other after this was sent out. Most programs don't consider the app complete until that is in their hands. Although from what I remember, rumor had it that the so-called "top" programs invite early, supposedly to able to "cherry pick" their people as early as possible.Don't focus on this too much. I would advise you to relax, enjoy your upcoming 4th year as much as possible, schedule fun rotations in things you might never get to do again. Go to every interview, and remember, people do still match even with programs who offer "late" interviews. That being said, you are FAR from "late" interview season. Best wishes, any questions about the process are welcome.
