When to Start Using USMLEWorld?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm very curious about the answer to this question too...

Some people say 1st year is too early and you shouldn't waste the questions

Some say that the earlier you get involved with it, the better off you'll be in the long run

Can we get a consensus on this?

Save it for boards. You can do just fine in all of your 1st and 2nd year classes by using the resources provided by your school. And it's expensive!

Just save it for board study only. There are other tools to test your comprehension of a topic throughout first and second year. UWorld is gold for the boards; don't use up these precious questions before their time.

I hear that. My only reason that I would bring it up is that even as an early M1---I can already tell that I am learning the **** out of this ****, then flushing it out and forgetting it all.

I just thought that some sort of comprehensive quizing on the side would help avoid that.

Amen... Xenoderma, huh? Maple syrup, what? Alcoptonuria result from a defect in homogenetials suxidase?

Start qbank 3 months before you take the boards.

If you are so nervous you absolutely cannot stand not studying for boards as a MS1, read some pharm/micro/anatomy/biochem board review books and do the accompanying "board style questions" that come with each. But be forewarned that such an enterprise is a massive f***ing waste of your time.

If you learn it well the first time it will come back when you're in your dedicated step 1 studying time, and UWorld will help pull it to the surface.

Do a lot of students begin using it in their first year??

No.

Most of Step 1 is material from 2nd year, so trying to do USMLE World questions without having taken Pathology (and others) would be rather frustrating, I would think.

Do not use UW until you are into hard core board studying at the end of 2nd year. If you really want to start doing questions now get some kaplan books or something or get qbank, which sucks, but at least you won't waste world.
