When to STUDY for USMLE??????

When is a good time to start to study for USMLE PART 1 ? Buy study books, Kaplan etc. and start as you're learning in years 1 and 2 or wait until the end of the second year? What have people done?

I waited until the end of second semester second year to study specifically for the USMLE. We get a two month break between second and third year, and I took six weeks to study. I studied for 8-10 hours a day, seven days a week. That sounds like a lot, but it really isn't so bad. Well, it is bad. Any more than six weeks and I would have gone nutty.
