I’ve recieved 1 secondary so far. I know that doesn’t ensure I’ll get an interview/ acceptance. However I am worried if I submit the secondary now, when my top choice doesn’t start sending out II’s until August, that I will be in a scenario where I need to make a decision on that school long before my top choice school even lets me know about their decision.
I can’t afford to pay multiple deposits to hold seats, so I’m concerned about the mixed timeline all of these schools offer as far as interviews/ decisions.

Should I wait to submit any secondary until I see if I get one from my #1 choice?

Congrats on receiving it! I would submit it right away. The DO cycle runs pretty long and the school won't get back to you for a while most likely. You're def one of the first people to receive a secondary so you won't be processed until a good amount of others receive theirs, which could take a bit. Most DO schools will send out interviews in late July/August so you won't have to wait too long.

1st-never assume you’ll be in the position to pay multiple deposits. Never assume anything. Definitely don’t put your eggs in one basket with your #1.

2nd- in the time it took you to write this post several(maybe hundreds) other gunners have submitted their secondary. Remember that you might be good but there are always better.

I would right away. They are slowing than one would think at making decisions. It also seems very risky to wait. Every adcom will say that applying early is always the right move.

From what I've been told by my friends in medical school, submit ideally within 72 hours. A week at the longest. I guess their reasoning was that it looks like you're not as interested in them if you wait any longer than that. For reference, I carry a flash drive with me that has prewritten secondary essays that I have been writing and revising for 2+ months. I also have a laptop in my car and a mobile hotspot on my phone. Granted, this is some premed neuroticism coming out, but I want to send a message to the schools that I'm very interested. I submitted my first secondary 1 hour after I received the invite.

As far as the money goes, this is going to be expensive. I managed to save and set aside around $6,000 for this application cycle. I figured that in the overall scheme of things, a few grand is nothing compared to the $200K+ I'm about to spend on med school. Best of luck this cycle and stay on top of things!

Just as an aside, one secondary invite landed in my spam box and I didn't see it for a week, I sent it back when I saw it and was given an interview invite three days later.

OP, first deposits for DO school aren't required till near the end of the year IIRC, so dont worry and send it off, the more interviews you have the more chance of success.

As the wise @Goro says, a lost deposit is nothing in the grand scheme of things

Yeah, I believe I saw that KCU's emails ended up in a lot of people's spam folder. I am more or less just saying that the early bird gets the worm in this process. I've known people who failed an application cycle and the only thing they changed the next was an early submission.

I agree about the deposit. Come December 15th, I'll be placing a deposit wherever I'm accepted and may or may not lose it.

I once had a school call me to ask why I hadn’t submitted my secondary. Some monitor them and see delayed action as a lack of interest. I explained how busy things were for me at the time and they ended up interviewing me FWIW.
