I apply May 2010.

When do I realistically take the DAT?

Try to give me a good date ASSUMING that I MIGHT need to retake it.

Thanks!

You have to wait about 3 months between testing dates, so if you really are worried about making sure you have an opportunity to retake if necessary, I would say study this summer and take it before fall classes start. I don't know about you, but I am so busy during the school year that I don't have much time to devote to studying for the DAT, which is why I'm not taking it until this summer. If you aren't happy with your scores the first time around, spend the winter break studying and plan to take it before the first wave of exams starts in January for your new classes.

I still have some ochem and bio classes left before I can truly take the DAT, I feel.

Besides, I'm taking summer courses from June to July 31st. What should I do 🙁

Plan on getting it right the first time. Study until you feel you can get the score you need to get in. If you rush the DAT you may spend more time than is necessary to get into dental school. Good luck!

are you a bio major?

if you are, take it immediately after taking 2 semesters of both gchem and ochem, as well as after you have taken a general biology class with some sort of a developmental organisms and molecular biology class....that should cover all your bases (except ecology).this way the content is very fresh in your mind.

i recommend taking the DAT before you go back to school for your spring semester next year. study during the fall semester, cram during break and youll be in great shape. if you need to retake (which you wont!), you will still have 6 months until the first day AADSAS opens.

this is not going to be fun, but you can do it with the right motivation

I plan on taking it during mid-September.

I tested out of the first two quarters of Biology due to my AP score, and I don't remember anything from those two first quarters of Biology. That's what KAPLAN is for 🙂

By September, I would have also finished the first two quarters of Organic Chemistry (there is 3, but I think the first 2 covers the DAT portion regardless).

As for gchem, I finished all of gchem during my freshman year.

Hence, I think Mid-September would be idea....the ONLY thing that makes me wonder if I have the knowledge would be the organic chemistry dilemna. I take Orgo 3 in the Fall which is when I plan on taking the DAT (Sept.)

Hopefully, they won't have any orgo 3 questions on there. I looked at the study guide and I'm pretty sure orgo 1+2 covers it all but we'll see...

Mid September is very late, I would try and take it in early to mid-june. If you wait to take it until mid-september chances are you will be interviewing mainly for the waitlist at many schools as they fill basically their entire class by Dec 1 and you would probably not get and pre-Dec 1 intewrviews.

try to take that DAT early, who knows you may impress yourself, and if you end up being happy with your score it is always a big plus to get that application out as early as possible
Goodluck
