Hey Guys,

So I found this forum two nights ago, and have pretty spent the following two days reading it constantly. Anyways, so after finding a ton of good information and things that had never occurred to me, I finally have a few questions that I couldn't find posted by other members.

I realize that you're supposed to typically apply in June or July before your senior year of Undergrad to be considered in the early cycle of applications to start dental school directly after undergrad, but when would someone take the DAT's if they wanted to apply in those months? Also, should you take the DAT's early enough that if you mess up, you can take them again? Should you of already taken the DAT's before applying? When should someone start studying for the test (start of junior year? christmas)?

Thanks for any of your help 🙂. I'm starting my sophomore year this coming Fall and want to have a plan set of when I need to start studying and when I should begin to schedule the DAT. I've already interned with my orthodontist (Washington, D.C.) but will hopefully being doing another internship or working with a general dentist in the area of my University (LA).

Thanks again,

Brandon

First, it's the DAT. Not DAT's], there's only 1 of them and a possessive apostrophe isnt needed either.
You want to apply like you said very early in the summer of your junior year, when youre a rising senior. You should have your app done and sent, Before you take the DAT. You dont need a year or 6 months to study for the DAT like you we're saying. About 3-2 months should be good. Just focus on getting good grades and learning your undergrad classes especially organic chem, gen chem, and biology classes.

First of all, capital letters follow periods, not unecessary commas. second of all, "we're" means "we are," not were. =P

I know this is an old post but I'm having the same trouble trying to decide when it is best to take the DAT. I am a current sophomore and am trying to decide if I should take it this summer that way I can get my application in as early as possible next summer.

Hey bud here is my advice take the DAT after you've finished your ochem classes gen bio and gen chem the best time to take it is in may or June or even July of your junior year Make sure your application is submitted before you get the DAT done if you do take it in July.. I feel like sophomore year I wouldn't have been prepared to take the DAT just get your study materials and take it when you feel comfortable you want to do well on it the first time..because trust me studying for it the second time sucks.. I took it in september of my senior year which was late.. But I had my application submitted in June and they just needed my DAT score.. I still got 7 interviews and 3 acceptances. I hope that helped

I'd take it right after you're done with your year of organic chemistry. I took the DAT in May and submitted my application in June. I got in... Hope this helps. PS- You'll only want to take the DAT once if you can... This looks the best. So study hard, it's not an easy test my friend.

Best time is anytime before June 1 so that you can apply as early as possible.
