i was a pre-dent but stuff happened. Anyways, when would be a good time to take OAT? and when should I start applying?(overall)

n anyone for some reason took DAT's... how are OAT's differ?(i am aware of physics)

any feedbacks will help me at this time.

Thank you very much!

First off, you were pre-dent but stuffed happened 😕 ... as in, you don't want to be a dentist anymore and have researched the profession and think that optometry is right for you? That might be a good place to start...

Next, you should always apply as early in the cycle as you can. Most schools start accepting apps in September and continue on until March. You should start studying for the OAT and take them as soon as you think you are ready. You want the most complete app possible to send in, so obviously take the OAT sooner rather than later, provided you have the classes you need to be prepared. Check out www.opted.org for a list of what subjects are covered on the OAT. They also have a practice exam that is a pretty good reflection of the real thing. Also, pick out which schools you are going to apply to, and get started on the essays. Line up your LORs and observation/shadowing if needed.

I can't help you out on the DAT vs. OAT issue. To my understanding, they are basically the exact same test with the exception of physics and one other thing that escapes my mind (anyone?).

Exact same test (written by the same people) except OAT has Physics and the DAT has a "Perceptive Reasoning" section where test takers have to pretty much decipher a bunch of 3-D optical illusions. The Natural Sciences, Quantatative Reasoning, and Reading Comprehension sections are all the same format on both tests though.
