We both got into the UCs and other schools. The UC schools start interviewing people late-October - early November. My UCLA interview was on Nov 5th; UCSF interview on October 25th (I think). For some schools, mid-Aug may be a bit too late. For example, a few days after my AADSAS application was mailed out I called Case Western Univ. and asked for an interview invitation. I was granted an interview that same day or the following day but my interview date was late February. I think I called Case W. in Sept. So, at least for Case Western mid-August was a bit too late. I guess it also depends on which schools you apply to. In any case, I wouldn't take any test when not ready. Don't procrastinate. Study very hard & take the test when ready.
