when is the best possible time to take the PCAT? the summer after junior year or the spring semester of junior year?

It doesn't really matter between those two options you gave. Do it when you think you will be most ready. If you want the summer to study, take it in August or October. One advantage of taking it earlier is that you would have time to retake it if you do badly. Schools typically accept up to the October date but some even accept the Jan date of the year you are applying.

I'd just go ahead and assume you're going to take it twice. Not to be negative but you're going to almost certainly do better your second time. Do it after you've completed the pharmacy pre reqs. Go on the pcats website to see what each section tests on (I can't remember) but I believe you'll need to have taken bio, gen chem, 1st semester of o chem. What I did was study all summer when I had time to focus and took it in August. Who has time to study for that bitch during the school year? I'd also plan to take it a year before you apply if even just to get a feel for it.
