Hello!

My questions are:

1. What is the latest date that I should submit my Application for it to be one of the first that admission com. look at?

2. When is the latest date that I should take the DAT so that I can still be considered 'early'? Would June 30th be that date?

I live in Canada and will be taking the American DAT here at a Prometric test location. Does this differ than if I would take it in the USA?

Thank you!

1. For schools that grant interviews early such as Case and Nova, you probably shouldn't submit any later than June.

2. June 30th is early enough, imo. I took mine in August and I still received quite a few first round acceptances.

thanks.

so I dont have to submit it on May 15th? Everyone tells me to be early this round since I didnt get in. I don't want to make the same mistake!

Good question.
But when is the latest that we can submit the app and not be hurt at all (I need all the advantages that I can get). for USA.

Impossible to say! With every passing day, you increase the risk that the delay in submitting your app will affect you.

A lot of people will say the end of the summer (~August) but some schools were already handing out interviews in July last cycle. Since it takes ~6 weeks for your app to get from AADSAS to the dental schools, those students at least submitted sometime in June.

similar situation.

I am getting my application together now. Ordered all my transcripts to my house so I can verify all my grades myself. Getting ready for May 15th. I am taking DAT on June 30th. I just signed up for it yesterday. I've been lagging on studying and stuff.

Good luck!

Application: end of May
DAT: end of June.

would this be a bit too early? I really need all the time I can get

End of June will guarantee that the earliest schools have the scores in hand for the very first batch of invites. But end of July should be soon enough to be evaluated and invited for August and September interviews. The small and unverifiable advantage you'll get by getting your scores there in July is nothing compared to the boost you'll get from an extra month of studying and the likely better scores.

sounds good! Only question is, if I submit the Application earlier than the DAT, then, wont they just wait for it anyway? so what is the point in submitting the Application earlier than the DAT scores? if they sit around anyway?

b/c the application takes so long to be verified and sent out. The DAT takes 2 weeks max. You should already have all the stuff you need to fill out your application today, so there's no advantage to delaying it. If your GPA is real good too, I think there's a possibility adcoms would review your app w/o scores and schedule you for an interview.

If the app cycle opens on May 15th (Say it opens May 19th- never opens right away): it suggests it will take 4-8 weeks:
--> That would mean anywhere from June 16th to July14th

So if I were to write the DAT on June 30th with 2 weeks to send: It would be July 14th until they receive it. That would mean my application would possibly already be sent out, no?

If you submitted your app within the 1st work of opening, you can be practically guaranteed it will be at the schools by early July. I'm not sure what your concern is. The timeframe you have right now is good, submit the app ASAP and take the DAT on June 30th (or up to a month later by my estimates).

Thanks for the reply! I will be doing that with the application! Submitting as soon as possible.

I am just worried when to take the DAT. If schools receive the application in early July, wont they wait for the DAT scores before looking at the application overall (i.e they will put it on hold). So if I were to take the DAT LATER than June 30th (as you say-up to a month later), then they would still be waiting for my scores and my app would be sitting around. Wouldn't that mean they will look at many complete files while they wait for mine?

Just a thought?

Yes, they will likley be waiting for your DAT scores to come in. But if they get the scores by very early August (assuming you take it on July 31st), there will still be plenty of time to review your material and get in on the interviews for Sept and Oct.
Otherwise just take it on June 30th like you have planned. The July date is just if you need the extra study time to do well on the DAT. Getting an AA of 20+ in August is much better than a 18 or 19 in June-July.

fantastic. Thank you very much for the insight.

I have taken the DAT twice already but didnt get good scores because I was pressed for time. I have got some studying done already, and I am giving myself 2 months for this. In you opinion, is this enough? I only took the Canadian DAT's (no orgo, or math) and i really do think the american one is going to be a harder test.

Ok so it actually says that DAT scores take about 3-4 weeks to send... not 2 weeks.

Therefore if July 4th too late to take the DAT to still be considered 'early'?

July 4th would mean July 25th or August 1st until the scores would be there.
In the mean time, my application would be in by around June 30th... just waiting. This means They would put it on hold for almost a month.

I just want to be part of the 1st applications.

July 4th is still relatively early. Most early schools don't start reviewing applications until well into August. If there are schools that begin in July it won't kill you because there are not that many. I took my DAT in late August so my application was not complete until midseptember.

Hi Jaba

I think I'm in the same situation
I took cDAT but didn't get good scores.

My concerns is whether I have to send my cDAT scores or list cDAT on the application form.
I'm going to take aDAT in mid July and send the scores.

Is it okay if we send cDAT and aDAT scores all together after mid July?

Is it ok??? sure it is, you could wait until next year to send it if you really wanted and that would be ok.
Most of you are asking the wrong question of "when is the latest I can send my app and scores?" You should all be asking when is the earliest I can send everything.
The Application cycle opens May 15 and if you want to be an early applicant then submit your applications on May 15. There isnt any reason you should wait if you are concerned with being an early applicant. There is also no reason it should take you more than an entire month to fill the application out. It really shouldnt take you more than a week, or a full 8 hour day to fill it out. There will be many people who will submit their application the first day, I was one of them because I was concerned that I wouldnt get in and I wanted to do everything I could to improve my chances.
Take the DAT as soon as you are ready and dont procrastinate. You can still submit your application without having taken the DAT. Good luck to everyone applying this round!

Hey! I think we can just send the American DATs because it is a different test. From what I gather, we can send them around mid July and we are still safe.
PM me, i'd like to talk to you more about what school you are applying to and such.

well said! I will submit the application as soon as possible. It is only the DAT that i should have enough time to study for. How long did it take you personally?

I studied just on and off during winter semester (Jan to end of April last year) and then studied every day until June 1st and took the DAT then. I submitted my application May 15th and took the DAT June 1st.

Hey
do u mind if I ask ur cDAT score?
If we list cDAT scores on the application form, we could get early interview (since DAT scores are recieved) and we can update our high aDAT (hopefully) later for high chance of acceptance. Am I correct?

I don't know if I should send my cDAT or not....;;;

I'm thinking of taking aDAT in mid July since I have to study math and organic chem;;;
