Am I using these equations the right way?

For λ = 2L/n , this equation is used when you are dealing with strings, pipes open on both ends, and a pipe closed at both ends.

For λ = 4L/n , this equation is used when you are dealing with a pipe with one closed and one open end.

Yup...I thinks so.

Keep in mind 'n' is the harmonic of the standing wave, not the number of nodes in the standing wave-for open pipes they'll be the same number but for 1-open-1-closed pipes they're different. The important thing to remember is for those types of pipes you'll skip the even numbered harmonics (2,4,6,8).
