So, I've been invited to 6 interviews and am on 2 waitlists already. I assume that a few more schools will put me on waitlists and if everything works out I'll eventually get accepted somewhere (fingers crossed).
What I really want to know though is when this whole process will end. Will I be able to enjoy my summer or will my life revolve around the mailbox up until May, June, July....dare I say...August?? I want to know where I'll be. Could I be waiting all summer for my top choices to make up their minds? Any info is greatly appreciated.

It happens, though rarely.

Yigit, I know how you feel. I am in a similar situation. If only some people would not view their acceptances like trophies (and I know this is going with some people on this board) and give them up to people like us.

I withdrew ALL my other applications today...so there are a few more spots open now!

Good Luck!

Wow Cobragirl, you are great!! People should take notice of your consideration and act accordingly. So, what medical school will you be attending next year?

I can understand holding more than one acceptance if the schools are close to each other in every way. Having said that there is no excuse for holding 5 and 6 spots at one time. You have to be able to rank the schools in some kind of order. When I got into my top choice I cancelled all my other interviews and drop all my other acceptances. I've been through the process more than once so I understand what it feel like to be on the outside when it seems like everyone else is getting in. I remember worrying almost ever minute of the day, "what if I don't get in...what am I going to do?" I'm not trying to put down anyone that is holding many spots but I know that there are a lot of people out there that deserve to get in med school. Many won't get in and I'm not going to hold a spot at a school that I know I wouldn't go to. That spot should go to a person that really wants to go to that school. Sorry if I upset anyone with my comments.

So the question still stands....how long will this take? Anyone know?

i just posted this on another question, but here's the deal (at least my opinion of what will happen).....most outright acceptances are given by april (i know stanford interviews really late, so they might be different). once people start making up their minds, others get off the waitlist. but i don't think that happens until around may 15, after which you are only allowed to hold one waitlist spot. incidentally, many schools take >40% of the their class off the waitlist, so there's a really good chance of getting in. that being said, you could be waiting until the summer months, although i don't know how often that happens.

Just a minor correction: I believe after May 15th you can only hold ONE ACCEPTANCE, but as many waitlist spots as you want.
