This is another attempt to revive a previous thread that didn't get that far. So here it goes...where are those attending UIC COD this fall, what are your stats, major, where in Illinois are you from and if you are one of the probably 1 or 2 out of staters please share your stats and interview experience. What are you doing in preparation for dental school, were accepted somewhere else and decided on UIC? And do you guys plan on staying in dorms or renting an apartment nearby. I've seen the CASE thread and it'll be nice to thread in their direction. Here is my info:

I graduated in 2001 with BSME, worked for three years at a consulting firm as an engineer, finally had enough money to see a dentist and then decided I wanted his job..but there was a little problem..I needed a degree so I enrolled in summer school in 04, and two more semesters later, almost 40 credit hours later, I'm off to UIC COD. I'm still not sure if I will reside on campus or not and I'll be prepping my self for school by watching a six series cadaver dissection video.

Stats:
Undergrad Major/Minor: Mechanical Engineering/Math
Overall GPA: 3.2 BCP GPA: 3.3 Sci GPA: 3.3
DAT (AA/TS/PAT): 20/20/15

Applied: NOVA, UIC, SIU, Marquette, Louisville, Temple, USC, Columbia, NYU
Interview: UIC, SIU, Temple (for Alternate List but plan not to attend)
Rejected: NOVA, Louisville
Accepted: Marquette, UIC, SIU
Waiting: USC, Columbia, NYU
Attending: UIC (Only if USC,NYU,SIU, or Columbia Presents Full Scholarship)

UIC does not and probably will not accept any out of staters for a while. Last years class had zero and this years class will have zero.

festac,

I graduated from SLU in '04 with an English BA, was waitlisted that year and started graduate work at SIUE for the next 3 semesters to pull up the science GPA. Reapplied and was accepted to UIC and Creighton.

Overall GPA: 3.3 Sci GPA: 2.7 GradSci GPA: 4.0
DAT (AA/TS/PAT): 19/18/20

I am from the NW suburbs of Chicago; I had a great interview experience (both years); and Bullfan16 is correct, there are no longer out of state students accepted at UIC, primarily for retention purposes as I understand it.

I am planning on living in an apartment or condo near campus and having next to no life for four years. 😱 I'm going to check out the Bodyworlds exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry to at least get a feel for what cadavers are like, but outside of that, I'm just trying to take it easy and get mentally ready for d-school. Congrats on your acceptances!

Just got the call this morning and am getting the acceptance letter within the week (almost 4 months on the waitlist, DAMN!)....see you at orientation on the 15th.

I am from Northbrook...went to Glenbrook North High School (aka hazing high school aka 2005 boys basketball state champs). I just turned 25 and went to Indiana where I recieved a degree in finance and did a lot of postbacc work at Loyola, CC, and Roosevelt (started an MS program) in the city and Schaumburg. My fiance's sister is a D2 and I am sure she is full of a lot of insight. 1st/2nd years just took the NBDE part 1 on Monday. Anyway, looking forward to meeting you all. Hopefully we are all Bears fans....and there better not be any cheeseheads in our class lol!

hey i goto uic for undergrad rite now
and my plan is to goto uic cod b/c i live in the city....anyhow my signuature has my gpa's and tomorrow i'll have the dat score
what do you think i need for a uic acceptance???

Congratulations Bullfan16! And I concur, no cheeseheads, please. I think UIC's orientation is going to be much more fun that IU's. I'm looking forward to it.

SunnyD: Your numbers all look pretty good. Assuming you get good letters and interview well, I think an 18 would get you in and a 19 would almost guarantee it. Although, if I've learned one thing, there are absolutely no guarantees of anything when it comes to dental school. Best of luck!

Unless your parents donate money....like in your case

Right. Nice post.
Hey buddy, all I'm saying is you got in because your parents donated to the school. Please do not deny that. I have spoken with people there, like Dr. Jon Daniel and Dr. Lin Tao, Dr. Drahos, etc. so I am in the know. People like you make me sick. You claim that your weak stats got you in when another student who perhaps is not as financially privileged as you inquires about getting in to UIC and you pull some lame answer that "if I got in anyone can". No, your daddy's ortho bucks got you in! I got in on my own back and had to climb over people like you during my second time applying. I'm now a D3 and am just fed up with people like you getting in to d-school on donations. Indeed politics are everywhere, but ther should be some bounds especially in health profession admissions. I'll be looking for you at orientation....

Seriously who the hell are you? Do you even know who Billiken is? Did you know it also took him two times to get in...it wasnt an easy path for him (or myself for that matter). Its people like YOU who make me sick...you assume way too much. Did you also know that B10 has extremely good numbers and you have no clue what you are talking about? If you are a D3 at UIC, why is your screenname "ChadDMD"? At UIC...you receive a DDS degree. Lastly, are you trying to intimidate someone here by saying you are going to "look for" a kid at orientation? You have some major issues buddy. Worry about yourself and stop making **** up. Have fun in the clinics.....with your attitude it seems like you are gonna be the dude who gets it worse than others. Nice name dropping...you sure are "in the know"

My sister is a D3 at UIC COD, maybe you know her ChadDMD and vice-versa. I'll have to ask her whether she knows of anyone getting in due to donations, in order to clear all this up. Even if this allegation is true, we all have to realize that this world is not as simple as we wish it could be and focus on the positive things, such as the quality of perseverance Billiken possesses.

First off, UIC awards a DDS? Wow, I had no idea. Did you know they are one in the same (DMD, DDS)? Of course you did so don't concern yourself with my screenname. Secondly, Billiken has no perseverance which merits kudos, his parents on the other hand do for their "donations" to the college. I saw Billiken's numbers, they were in the area of 3.0, 2.7 GPA and average DAT scores. It is a FACT that students are admitted via donations from dentist parents. I thought everyone knew this. My goal in this forum was to shed light on that fact. Affitmative action is not what you people should be worried about (ie white male student club thread), it is people like Billiken being grandfathered in by alumnus.
My stats from 2002 app cycle:
GPA: 3.6
Science GPA: 3.8
DAT: 21, 20, 22

First off, how do you know this??
second, I personally know B10 and trust that he would not need to do this since he had already gotten into Creighton.

Yes...I know they are one in the same (DMD, DDS) but usually a person would choose their screenname to match the degree they are going to receive, so I find that a bit odd. Who does that? Its like an NBA player going on AOL and requesting that his screenname be NHL14 (he's a professional athlete and they are one and the same right?). Anyway, not to start anything here but my dad went to UIC and I know for a fact that he did not donate to UIC nor will he ever....you can chalk that up to a former dean. In any case, I dont think my numbers are that spectacular either but it took me 2 application cycles to get in and I know for a fact that I did it on my own merit...and I am 100% sure thats how Billiken got in as well.

I think the questions you should ask yourself are:

1) Why should I care about the application cycle seeing that I am now a 3rd year and am graduating in 2 years?

2) Why do I care about someone's alleged situation?

3) Why should I worry about anyone except for myself?

4) Why would I be at orientation when I should be on break, in the clinic, or not at the dental school entirely?

I think you need to mull these questions over....and finally when did anyone say anything about affirmative action? Where do you get this stuff from?

Either you arent who you say you are or you are just a loser...get a life bro.

Odviously you're father is a dentist. That is why you got in. Good Job. Congrats.

I care because people with parents that are dentists ruin things for those whose parents do something else. It is viewed like a fraternity or something. My father is a pharmacist and he too sees the discrimination in dentistry (hence took my twice to get in to my state school with great stats). You and bilkin are case in point of how corrupt the system is. I will make it a point to be around your orientation and pull some strings if I so desire.
