I'm entering a gap year and would love to get some hands on experience. I called up a few Dental Labs and they aren't hiring (especially no one with no experiences). I then though being a dental assistant could give me some hands on experience only to find that it was crazy expensive to take the classes. Where can one get some hands on experience before dental school??

Not sure your states rules but some states don't require any classes to be an assistant. Others only require it for some procedures like nitrous and radiology. So if you're willing to move or just investigate your states rules for assistants closer you might find something. Also shadowing for free usually doesn't get turned down as often both at labs and in dental offices.

You do realize that dental lab tech training is a 2 +/- program, right?
