I live in the San Francisco Bay Area

I have shadowed an Osteopathic Physician before, but she no longer practices in my area. I want to observe more OMM, but I am not having any luck with Osteopathic Physicians in my area, who are being unresponsive.

I wanted to participate in Touro-CA's ShaDO program, but I don't think they're letting anyone come in at the moment, because right now school is not in session.

Where else can I look? Thanks.

Have you personally gone into any clinics or offices? It’s usually easier going that route especially if it’s not a hospital.

I have not done that. Thanks for the idea. I just don't want to waste their time or make anything complicated.

Well I can’t guarantee it will work but in my case I marked a few offices on a map and visited them. I had something prepared for when I would talk to the staff up at the front and usually they will ask for your contact information. It ended up working for me, and I’m still in contact with that DO physician I had the opportunity to shadow. By doing it this way, they know who you are and why you’re trying to shadow rather than a phone call which is a little easier to forget about.

That’s just my opinion but I hope everything works out! Most physicians are usually receptive to the idea, it’s just getting in contact with them.

Thanks, anyway! I appreciate the advice, and is something I can do instead of just sitting around and waiting.

Look up DOs that are boarded in neuromuskuloskeletal medicine. All they do is manipulation for the most part. There seem to be a number in SF. This was my primary DO shadowing and I feel it looked great on my apps.

Sf and Berkeley has many practicing OMT specialists.

Touro CA may not be in session but the family docs and OMT docs still see patients in clinic year round.
