Kaplan's MCAT Advanced touts itself as the toughest questions for the top students...well I'm wondering if the passages they have in that book are actually any harder than passages in other Kaplan books. If not, where can I get really hard, twisting, convoluted passages? I feel like I need practice with those.

USMLE Step 3 Material is pretty sick I hear.

Lol, if you want practice tests, I hear that TPR and AAMC ones are the best.

Also if you want heavy-handed detail review notes, I hear that Berkeley Review is pretty intense.

i torrented off a huge set of Kaplan practice materials and I'm going through them nowadays. I feel like the practice material is ridiculously hard because the passages seem to discuss things that just blow my freaking mind.

But then again, this is a biased view since I may just not have studied enough. And I haven't tried the AAMC practice tests yet, so I'm not too sure if it would be accurate.

But I like that the Kaplan practice materials hit you a barrage of different things everytime. It makes me feel like that I'm getting exposed to every possible set of questions out there...

I mean, how many different ways can you come up with a question about centripetal motion or capacitors or cell embryology??? The science passages is just another task of memorizing every possible fact out there and being exposed to every possible type of problem to maximize your knowledge.

But VR is always up in the air... because who knows what they'll make you read. Maybe about miming? About dirty belgian hookers (i've actually read a passage about one)? Maybe even about how to clip your nose hair!

Final line: there's no limit to what they can test you on the VR, but there IS a limit to science. You just have to work your face off to exceed it then you can pretty much guarantee yourself high scores on the PS and BS.

And who cares about essays? I feel like every single time I practice writing an essay about one of the essay topics on the AAMC website that my mark would be all up in the air. It really just depends on who's reading it and how they feel at the time. And WHAT'S up with this "computer" grading my essays? How can a computer grade an essay? Besides being able to detect obvious spelling errors and grammar mistakes, I don't understand how AAMC can justify that a computer marks an essay.

Just my $2. My thoughts are worth 100x that of others.

saiyan, how do you torrent off kaplan materials? and does that include FLs? i never even thought of that

I really think that going extra hard will not necessarily be beneficial to you on exam day since it will get u accustomed to thinking in a specific manner tailored towards super difficult exam .. for instance you might mistake a straight forward question for a tricky question and choose an answer according to what u accustomed ur mind to react when given this topic.... but that is just my opinion.

you need to practice on tests that represent the MCAT as much as possible not harder or easier, again .. just my opinion

GL on your exam :luck:

I would say Kaplan by far, but they're not the kind of passages/practice I would use to prepare for the real thing. I found some of their VR passages pretty hard to finish in 6-8 mins as their questions involved a lot of details; I found myself flipping back and fourth between the question and the passage a lot. Their science is a bit over the top; some of the mental leaps you have to make to correctly answer the questions is a bit too much. So if you want difficulty go with Kaplan!
