so i'm a fourth year now at UCSD
major: human biology
minor: health care-social issues
gpa: 3.54
science: somewhere around 3.6

ec: cancer research (no publication bOOO), volunteering at a hospital, internship at a hospital (very good, very hands on - direct patient contact), shadowing, i did a lot of church things which i'm not sure if i should include or not...nursery (which i feel like is important because i have interest in pediatrics)

mcats: P10 V11 B11 W: Q
..boo

should..i even attempt to apply to an MD school?
prob should retake mcats huh? (but i took all the aamc practice tests...and i feel liek i dont know what more to study?)

plans: will probably volunteer with medical missions: mexico, maybe south america; leadership positions in the internship i'm at...i really don't want to continue research...kinda don't have too much interest? is that bad?

help me please...

Shouldn't have been in California. Those stats are good for schools... outside of California 🙄

Your MCAT score is nicely balanced and looks fine. It's your GPA that needs work. How high can you reasonably get the cGPA and BCPM by June? What would be the impact of an additional year of excellent college grades (if they let you stay to complete a minor, perhaps)?

Maybe you could add some timeframes to your ECs? Any teaching, leadership so far, volunteerism in the general community, sports, artistic involvement, hobbies? I think it's fine to include working in the church nursery.

You can definitely apply to MD schools with those stats. Be sure to apply broadly as well.

Yup yup, don't bother retaking the mcat. It looks good. You're gpa ain't bad, actually it's good, but if you are able to bring it up a tad before next June, by all means try your hardest to do so.

A 3.5-3.6 is on par for a lot of MD schools out there. You seem to have a lot of good and interesting ECs as well, so that definitely will help. Maintain that GPA or do better and I bet you'll see an acceptance letter next fall.

Ps: if you don't like research, get out of it and do something that you enjoy doing and can talk about enthusiastically in an interview.
