I am currently going into my senior year. With that said, I plan on staying a 5th year after this year (scholarships and fin aid will take care of the total cost). I had to withdraw last semester because my father was having health problems, however he has recovered and is doing well and I am excited to get back on the journey to getting into medical school and becoming a doctor.

I currently hold a 3.855 GPA after 5 semester (had to withdraw spring semester of junior year as mentioned above).

In addition, as for activities I have:

1) President of Pakistani Student Association (PSA) in a city in New Jersey

2) PSA Teach and Travel: I have traveled to Turkey through PSA. Several other undergrads and members of PSA taught english at nearby elementary schools in Istanbul. I was organizer of this event that takes place every summer from May to June. As organizer and President it is my duty to interview other applicants and accept students.

3) NJ Help Center (Immigration Help): Located in a city in NJ, I am a teacher for several South Asians, Middle Easterners, Hispanic/Latino, African Americans, etc. We have several others teachers and through this program we teach recent immigrants US History and basic history and other material needed for them in order to attain an US Citizenship.

4) PSA Ramadan food drive: This program that has been running for three years now allows us to fundraise money and donate food to homeless individuals throughout NJ/NY/PA area. We target many inner cities that are known for homelessness. We usually do this during Ramadan, when many Muslims are fasting and may not have when it is time to break fast

5) PSA Prison buddies: Our research shows that many inmates go through many religion changes while in prison. Islam is also the fastest growing religion. Through special permission we are able to attend many prisons in NJ and spread awareness, religiously challenge inmates, and give them the resources needed to get a deeper understanding of various religions.

6) Employment: Model at Abercombie and Fitch

7) Assistant wrestling coach at a nearby high school. In addition to this, many inner city children do not have access to wrestling facilities at an early age. Success in wrestling is mainly determined by when you began to wrestle just like many sports. As a result, when they begin to wrestle in HS, many end up with losing records. As a result, I have opened up a local gym with the help of other coaches and community members. I serve as President of the wrestling club and also coach there

8) Substitute teacher in my cities Board of Education

9) PSA tutor: I have tutored AP Biology, SAT, and AP Literature along with elementary algebra, trigonometry, etc.

10) I have done research at my universities Department of Neurosurgery, Dermatology, and Reproductive Physiology

In addition, I have over 450 hours of volunteering throughout my first 2 years in college. I have over 80 hours of shadowing.

Other important information:
I am the first in my family to attend college. From an urban city with a very low EFC. Only 16 student from my city in the last 2 years was able to attend a non community college. I'm not sure if these will factor in but yea, please do let me know. Another important strength my pre health advisor said my application has is me taking upper level courses. For instance, students at my university do not take Neurobiology until junior or senior year. Many students don't end up taking Endocrinology or some of the other classes I have taken or have signed up for.

My recommendation is worth much less than Goro, but I would recommend an MCAT score to improve your app 😉.
But in all seriousness I agree with Goro. You're doing great. Well done getting back into it after your family issues!

You're doing great; don't over-extend yourself, and make sure to have fun. Now go rock the MCAT.

Thanks @Goro and @jtd2081 ! As for MCATs, do you guys know how many hours or months most student use in preparation for the MCATs. I wanted to start this month, but I won't be able to due to other commitments. I was planning on studying July and August of this summer and winter break. And all of next summer as well and winter break of my 5th year at uni. And then I was planning on taking it at the end of winter break of my 5th year. This would give me about 6-7 months to prepare for the MCATs (in addition to the hours, if I can study during the semesters). Thanks!

Best to inquire in the MCAT forum?

1) You're standing on Earth.

2) The amount of prep required for the MCAT is something that is 100% dependent on you. Some people can study a week and ace it whereas most study a few months consistently. Some study years in advance.

Great work thus far! Your MCAT will really sort of decide what schools you should be aiming for. Although most commonly students will take 3-4 months full time to study, your schedule might be different based on what else you have going on.

I'd be careful with this one. Could rub people the wrong way
