First, I'm new to the site. I've heard of it from time to time, but I've neglected to make it here for quite a while. From what I've seen, I could get some good advice here.

Now I am very very confident that once I get interviews, my admission is totally in my hands. Till then, I sit and wait like everyone else.

I applied last year around october, foolishly thinking that I still had a realistic shot of getting an interview. After i stopped kidding myself, I realized that I had just graduated UT and now had nowhere to go. So here is where I stand:

cumGPA: 3.43
sciGPA: 3.45
MCAT: 12P 10B 08V R
also, just retaken on 7/16, so i don't have those scores yet.

I'm only a re-applicant at the Texas Medical Schools, so I'm a first time applicant at all the AMCAS schools I've applied to.

Also, after my delusions were busted in January/February of this year, I applied to a special master's program at Drexel. It's the IMS program, where you take much the same courses as the first year med students. I'm currently attending the program (it just started) and I'm basically done with 70% of my secondaries.

My question to the community is, am I currently a competitive applicant for MD school in the US or am I still living in a delusion?

In terms of ECs- I have volunteering, shadowing, leadership, but no research. But like i said, all I really have to do is sit for an interview and I'll be fine. According to the current timeline, have I done enough to get interviews?

It'll mostly depend on how well you do in that program. Are you at or near the top of your class?

Did you have an upward grade trend at the end of your undergrad years? Were most of your low grades during the freshman year? Did you feel good about your performance during the MCAT retake?

For you, it will be very important to send a transcript to each of the schools you've applied to at the end of each term. I'm sure you know that you need to perform at the 3.5+ level, with 3.7+ being better.

Realize that your best chances may be after you complete the SMP and have demonstrated a consistent pattern of excellent academic performance over time.
