URM
spent year and a half working as a P.A for handicapped residents

2 volunteering clubs
intramural soccer player

Schools I plan on applying to:

Wash U
UT-SW

UW-Madison

I was thinking of putting down a few more, but I know those secondary fees will add up

I was also thinking a few DO schools but I don't have a LOR from a DO so I know that limits me

what other schools do you guys think I would have a shot at?

any feedback good or bad would be appreciated!!

Four of your schools are state schools from three different states. Will you be able to claim residency in all three? These schools favors the home team by a large margin, the odds are stacked even worse against you.

State of residence? Community you represent?

im from illinois (south suburbs of Chi), i know i should apply to more illinois schools, but I know Rush and UChicago are very selective, so I don't know if I should even spend the fee to apply

I would like to matriculate at a school located in an urban area in California, Texas, Chicago, Florida, or New York and of course go through residency there too

I know I should apply to some DO schools as well, but I'm restricted since I don't have a LOR from a physician

Sorry to hijack ure thread (sorta) but you say you were an "intramural soccer player"...does that even count? My Uni's got IM sports teams too and I've played on 90% of them and my buddies and I won the entire cup for all the sports combined...is this even noteworthy?? I didn't really think so until u mentioned it..

my fault, I guess it was kind of like intramurals, it wasnt through the university, but my apt. complex had a soccer team that played older teams around the area

I figure I should put it on there, I only have 11/15 filled on the work/activities....... smh

You're aiming too high. Go for your state schools, (if any) and low-mid tier MD programs, and all DO programs.

Schools I plan on applying to:

Wash U
UT-SW
UIC
UW-Madison
UC-SD
Loyola
Baylor
Feinberg

UT. By law they have to admit 90% from Texas. Your stats is already below average for UT even if you were a Texan.

Similar suggestion to UW madison, wash U.

Feinberg is aiming way too high.

Wash U
UT-SW
UIC
UW-Madison (MCAT is at 10th percentile and GPA is below 10th percentile)
UC-SD
Loyola (MCAT is at 10th percentile and GPA is slightly above 10th percentile)
Baylor
Feinberg

I bolded the schools that you shouldn't apply to because you're below, or far below their 10th percentiles for MCAT and GPA. The ones with comments speak for themselves. You stand an okay shot at UIC. Buy a copy of the MSAR because if you apply to these schools you are flushing your money down the toilet. You might be a URM but that isn't going to add 0.4 to your GPA and 4 points to your MCAT. My advice is: apply to solidly lower-tier MD schools that accept out of state students and apply to a decent amount of DO schools.

gotcha, I mean, I'm not mentioning that I am URM because I want it as a crutch, I mentioned it just because I heard that chances of getting in do change depending on ethnicity and I thought it would be considered a factor

the thing with the DO schools is I don't have a LOR from a DO, so I think theres only 6-7 I can apply to that don't require it I believe

There are so few African American applicants that you should get interviews at most schools with median MCAT scores at 34 or less. If you are a man, make that 35 or less.

like the previous poster said, a few may be a reach, you believe so also?

I'd agree for the most part, but I figure I would apply to a couple out of reach

Try to set up a shadowing appointment with a DO because you stand an excellent shot at getting into a DO school. Target newer physicians because I think the DO LOR is a new phenomena and newer physicians are more likely to understand what a pain in the ass it can be get a DO LOR.

Your interviews will be numerous as long as you articulate a commitment to service. You still have to shine in person, though.
