Hi all! I volunteer at the hospital by my campus and for next semester I want to try something different. This past semester I was in the pharmacy 😴 Since I am already a registered volunteer, I get first pick of where I want to go next semester! All of the options sound great but I can't decide what to do, what would you pick?

ER
Pediatrics
Oncology
Orthopedics
Cardiology

I'm interested in primary care but this isn't offered as one of the options. I'm leaning towards ER or orthopedics..... thoughts?

Pediatrics is primary care.

As a longtime hospital volunteer myself, I've "seen action" in all of those departments. It really depends on how much they let you do as a volunteer. I was blown away at what my hospital allowed volunteers to do. I was pretty much doing everything other than writing prescriptions and making incisions. :laugh: It was awesome!

Anywho, just in my experience...

ER = Exciting. Always something new. Never ceases to amaze me what doctors can do in a split second.
Peds = Generally slow-paced, but meaningful. Definitely for those who like talking to kids/parents. (My route.)
Oncology = Slow paced. Along the same lines as Peds in that you get some meaningful experiences. Learn a lot if you are allowed to review charts, etc..
Orthopedics = 😴
Cardiology = See Oncology.

If ortho lets you in on surgeries, you may like that.
