I had a 27 on my mcat before so I found a bunch of schools with mcat averages of 27-29. This august I think i might get a 32-34 (33 on 5R 32 on 6R). So I put together a list of schools with scores from 27-32 and It looks like theres a whole lot (most I guess). So which ones should I apply to? I know that with a 27 I should apply to about 25 but I could apply to others if I get a 32 but the list is too big. Anybody want to help me narrow it down?

Should I just stick to applying to schools under 30? my gpa is 3.64 and im a bio and history major. Thanks

Out of the schools that fit into your chosen MCAT range, I would eliminate any ones that you wouldnt really like to attend, because of things like tuition, location, curriculum, etc. No point in applying to a school you wouldnt go to (unless you think it may be the only school you will get in to)

welli keep hearing about people with 35's and 36's not getting in anywhere and alot more with 32's not getting in anywhere and I know there is a %age that this happens to every year. That's why I wanted to apply to many so I would have a chance but now the list is huuuge.

i applied to 43 schools. due to a lower than avg GPA, and got 5 schools to offer me invites. you never know who will like your application. but in the end, i got into a school i wanted to go to and so in hindsight, i did the right thing to apply to that many.

Look at location and curriculum structure above everything else. You could apply to a lot of schools, but chances are if you do a little more research, you'll be able to rule out ones you are not interested in. And remember, applications are expensive. Not only do you pay for each school you send your application to through AMCAS, but each school ususally charges you a fee for the secondary application right around 100 bucks.

anyone know any schools with good placement in orthopedic or orthopedic surgery programs?

I hear Harvard places it students quite well. UPenn, UCSF, Wash U, and Duke students also do well in Ortho placements.

Sorry, I'm a jackass. I dont know any specifics. 😀

I too had a 27 and I was accepted to one of my state schools. If your state school won't take you no one will, no matter how many schools you apply to. Apply to schools in your state and anywhere else you'd really like to go or have a connection with (went to college there, etc.), otherwise forget it.

wow, that last one was pretty discouraging. most NY state schools dont really prefer NY residents too much though. I think in state acceptance rates for the suny's are all below 11% . I looked at msar and noticed that last year 27 score students were the ones who applied most, were most rejected, and most accepted so I hope its not as bad as you say. Anyhow, ive studied this time around and im hoping, praying, banking? on a 32. keeping in mind that i had a 27 before tho, and im applying so late, im looking for schools to apply to.
