Ive been doing some research on schools regarding prerequisites, in/out of state %, GPA, and DAT and have compiled a list.

My GPA is 3.6, sGPA is 3.6. I will have a Biology Major and a Business Minor next spring when i graduate.
Ive taken several upper level science courses and plan on scoring around a 20AA/22PAT for my first DAT in June.
Ive been at a research clinic for a year now, and have volunteered at a dental clinic and retirement center for a year as well. I am in a health professions society and pre-dental society, and have shadowed 7 different general dentists/specialists for a total 0f about 50hrs.

I'm a Minnesota resident and my first choice is for sure the U of Minnesota. I'm not exactly sure what to look for in other schools at this point but want to keep my options open for the case i dont get into Minnesota, so I pan on applying to the following schools.

1. Minnesota
2. Tufts
3. BU
4. USC
5. NYU
6. Marquette
7. UoP
8. Nova
9. Howard
10. Temple

If you have any thought on my position or these schools I'd really appreciate it,

Thanks a lot!

Your stats are great and if you can get the DAT score you're looking for, you can apply anywhere. BTW, a 22 AA is pretty tough. That would put you in the top 4%. It's not unrealistic, but it takes a considerable study effort.
Also, add some stae schools to your list. Add ones that give you residency after your 1st year. No sense in paying private tuition when you have good stats. And while your at it, replace some of the private schools on your list that have low average stats, with more competitive ones (private or public). Columbia, UCLA, UCSF, etc.

yea, ive been studying for the DAT for quite some time and have pretty high hopes, i guess we'll see what happens...

I just want to be sure to have a few schools to choose from without applying to too many

Unless you're a minority I wouldn't bother applying to howard. I know what you're thinking "look at their average stats! I'm so in!" Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

UF, Stony Brook, U Miss, UAB, San Antonio, UCLA, Creighton.

Ask this question again AFTER you take the DAT.

Honestly, you have to realize that when you say things like that we are all laughing at you.

dude i try not to say anything mean to anyone on this board, maybe it's cause i 'm hungry and need to eat, please forgive me later...but, dang, i was thinking the same thing!!!!!!

although i did have a crazy dream once that i scored so high on the DAT that medical schools were calling me and asked me to take the MCAT, and i got a perfect score on the mcat...and justin timberlake was one of my classmates in med school

 That is good dream. I just had "waking up late for" and "failing the" DAT dreams.

wow... sorry dudes, didnt know that setting some lofty goals was gonna get me laughed off this forum...

to try and get something from this post ill reword my opening post...

since you guys know me so well, what am i going to get on the DAT, and with that score, do you have any advice of where to apply...

Here is my magic formula for applying to schools:

Apply to:

- 4-5 schools that you really want to go to
- 3-4 "back up" schools that you feel would be slightly easier to get into
- 2-3 "dream schools"

Apply to 10-15 total.

Looking at your list I would say that most are "easier" (note that there are no "easy" schools to get into) and have large class sizes. I would say you could take some of the large-class-size schools off your list and replace them with some other schools.

Also, consider where you want to live during dental school. But, all-in-all it's not a bad list.

19AA 19PAT, apply to all 56

give the guy a break man. i find ppl's responses too harsh and exaggerated. whether ur being sarcastic or not, every one knows applying to all 56 isn't a smart move. and his gpa is decent... sorry 'the drew u knew' not everyone has 3.8 and 20's in all the sections of the dat but surely they don't have to apply to all 56.

Thanks MB111 and NewMexDent, i really appreciate it,

it looks like ill probably do about 8-11 schools,

Hmm, my formula's a bit different...

1) expensive private schools that everybody gets into but never goes to, the sure shots...USC, (NYU)

2) less expensive private schools that have higher acceptance rates...Tufts, Case (somewhat), ASDOH (I was mistaken on this one), Temple

2) Public schools thru-out the country with high acceptance rates...Buffalo, Maryland

3) Expensive brandname private schools....Columbia, Harvie

4) Public brandname schools, in case I luck out and get the best of everything....UCLA, UCSF

5) El Cheapo public, out of state dental schools....UT Memphis, San Antonio

6) Misc, schools I don't want to go to, but my parents are paying for the airfare, so I might as well visit the city....various of the above.

1. Minnesota
2. Tufts
3. BU
4. USC
5. NYU
6. Marquette
7. UoP
8. Nova
9. Howard
10. Temple

I would get rid of Howard, unless you are an underserved minority. I would also get rid of at least 1 of schools 2-5. They are all expensive and with your stats you likely won't need them for an admission. I would replace them with Buffalo, Indiana, VCU, Pitt. The 2 former for sure as they tend to be more friendly to out of staters. You may want to think twice about applying to the Cali schools, USC has issues, UoP is great...but general consensus I personally have heard is that Cali is very competitive and not out of state friendly.

If the OP does get the DAT score that was mentioned a few states schools won't hurt. Marquette is for all intent an purposes as Wisconsin state school.

Hey guys, I'm looking to reapply to dental schools for the third time this upcoming cycle. My GPA/sGPA is 3.6/3.7, and my DAT is a 21. I applied last year, got 5 interviews, and one waitlist came out of it. This thread is helpful, but I want to know if anyone has a list of schools that are particularly easy for out-of-staters to get into.
