Hi all, so gearing up for application season, yet again, this is my third round. First time was still in undergrad, applied to ten schools, interviews at two, waitlisted at 1, no offer last year, applied to only 3, was just starting a new research job so they were just a back up plan, although I did get an interview at one. Now a year into the research job this is the big push. But even though I'm now very familiar with the process I'm finding myself psyched out(no pun intended) at compiling my list of where to apply. Since I've had two unsuccessful rounds, both of which resulted in interviews with no official offers I'm a little shaky in my confidence at picking appropriate programs to apply to. The first year I compiled my list mainly off of US news and world report rankings, which, in retrospect was very silly. Obviously its all about the best possible fit between your own interests and background and that of a the faculty member you wish to work with. I've found this forum to be a wealth of knowledge in the past, as well as a place that freaks me out when interview dates roll around, but i figure its a good place to at least get a little input from anyone who is kind enough to share about some good programs out there that might vibe with what I am currently doing and want to do. My interests/experience is listed briefly below, if anyone has some advice about programs that fit well it'd be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!!
I am interested in clinical neuroscience(majored in psych, minored in neuroscience at Ohio state, undergraduate thesis was in behavioral neuroscience, and eventually led to a published paper I co-authored), with specific interest in psychopathology, more specifically schizophrenia. I currently do translational fmri research on a few different substance abuse studies at The Mind Research Network affiliated with the university of new mexico. I'm interested in programs with a focus in schizophrenia research or psychopathology in general either in relation to substance abuse or on its own, with a neurological focus. My interest is really where clinical meets neuroscience, hence the translational research I'm doing now. From my past experience and what I've already done this round it seems like these kind of interests afford a lot of options, just wanted to get some input from people either in the same boat or those who have already gone through it. Thank you!
