Is is it even realistic to hope for such information?

I've been switching back and forth a bunch between what field I want to go into, and since I haven't even done clinical years yet I imagine I will change still more. A huge factor will be what I enjoy. But I also am interested in finding out what the field looks like down the road as far as pay, working environment and such goes. I've tried looking on specialty specific forums to see what people say, but in each forum there is a huge spectrum of positive and negative views of where that specialty will go in the coming years. As far as I can tell I haven't seen anything very substantial.

Obviously no one can know for sure, especially with all the upcoming changes to medicine. But has anyone found a good source describing what a specialty will be like down the road, or medicine as a whole, and that gives legitimate reasons for why? THanks!

That is what clinical years are for.
Except the projection part. But nobody can tell you that. Best to experience it and do something you enjoy.

QFT. The future is hard to project, and especially with the upcoming major changes to the HC system, I would venture to guess people don't know exactly what will change.

OP, did you just ask for accurate information about the future?

and did i (we?) just click on OP's forum hoping to find it?

Well, the dream is that OP wasn't asking a question in his topic title (as in, 'Where can I find accurate information about the future of medicine), but rather, it was a statement ('Here is where you can find accurate information about the future of medicine), like he was going to lead me to some shady website where I would pay (one-installment!) of 14.95 to get all the secrets of the future of medicine.

I was hoping for the latter when I initially clicked on the topic. Ah, wishful thinking at it's finest.

Qft?
I said "except the projection part" implying everything you said here. Since we can't see the future the only thing worth worrying about is that which can be controlled. I.e.what you will enjoy

Don't do rad onc, you'll be out of a job when they cure cancer!

Sorry, just had to say that hehe.

Careers in Medicine on the AAMC website. Also, there is some medscape survey that has some good info about the specialties.

QFT = Quoted For Truth. I was agreeing with you.

The rise of primary care and the fall of specialities..........

nobody knows.....find a specialty that you like best and do that.

If you are good at what you like, then everything else will be ok hopefully.

List the pros and cons when the time comes and go with your heart if your mind is not made up.

Great question, OP! I am also interested in hearing some answers on this!

Also, anyone have next week's Powerball numbers? Thanks!
